Experience the Magic of Verona’s Summer Opera Festival 2026

Step into the world of passion, drama, and music in the romantic city of Verona, the setting of Shakespeare’s legendary Romeo and Juliet. Each summer, this historic Italian city becomes the heart of the opera world, hosting one of Europe’s most spectacular cultural events — the Verona Summer Opera Festival. At the center of it all is the Arena di Verona, a stunning Roman amphitheatre built in the 1st century AD. Originally designed to hold 20,000 spectators, this remarkable venue has been hosting open-air opera performances since the 19th century. Today, it welcomes up to 16,000 guests each evening, offering a truly unforgettable experience under the stars. The first festival was staged in 1913 to celebrate the centenary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, and since then, the Arena has launched the careers of world-famous artists such as Maria Callas and Plácido Domingo. For 2026, the season begins on 12 June and runs through 12 September, featuring iconic works by Verdi and other celebrated composers.

Why This Festival is Unlike Any Other

Imagine nearly 2,000 performers bringing grand opera to life in a setting that has stood for almost two thousand years. The scale, the acoustics, and the atmosphere combine to create an experience that simply cannot be matched — a must for any opera lover.
