The Irish on The Western Front

Your journey begins at the Island of Ireland Peace Park in Messines, where you’ll reflect on the Battle of Messines Ridge and the Pool of Peace. Visit the Wytschaete Military Cemetery to honor the 16th (Irish) Division and see memorials for both the 36th (Ulster) and 16th (Irish) Divisions, including the Willie Redmond and John Meeke memorial.
Next, visit the Ring of Remembrance at Notre-Dame-De-Lorette, which lists the names of 576,000 troops who lost their lives in northern France. Continue to Le Touret Memorial to pay respects to the Royal Irish Regiment members with no known graves, and view Portuguese and Indian war memorials. You’ll also visit Lieutenant John Kipling’s tomb and the Loos Memorial to the Missing, recognizing the sacrifices made during the war.
