The opera festival in Verona is truly a unique experience.  The festival is a continuation of a fascinating tradition going back over eighty years.  Over time opera, ballet and concerts have been performed on an enormous stage, which has been quoted as being a dream venue for stars from around the world.  Additionally little known artists have arrived to perform in Verona and left the city ready to engage in a successful career, Maria Callas to name one! Verona’s most famous sight is its giant amphitheatre.  The arena was built in the 1st century AD and is the third largest still in existence. Aida was first performed in the arena and it has been used as the setting for the summer opera season ever since.  Every year up to two thousand performers present grand opera at its best in the unforgettable ambiance of this open air Roman amphitheatre, which has been in use for nearly two thousand years.
