Ballet in Budapest & The Christmas Markets

Experience beautiful Budapest on our 2023 Budapest Ballet and Christmas Markets tour. Known as 'the Pearl of the Danube' Budapest is a beautiful city which offers much to see and do. Our tour offers you the chance to see beautiful Budapest as well as enjoying The Nutcracker at the Hungarian State Opera.  As part of your stay, visit the glittering Budapest Christmas Markets and enjoy mulled wine and cake.  Admire the traditional handicrafts and the beautiful, festive lights and start your christmas shopping. During your free time spend the afternoon at the popular pedestrian shopping street of Váci utca and marvel at the city’s fine museums and monuments, churches and synagogues, historic squares and buildings.  And if you have time after all that, enjoy a relaxing visit to one of Budapest's famous thermal baths, literally an institution in Budapest!

Day 1:
Fly from Dublin to Budapest and on arrival in Budapest, meet your local guide for private coach transfer to the 4* K&K Opera Hotel, where you are booked for three-nights on a bed & breakfast basis. Flight departs Dublin at 08:55 and arrives Budapest 12:50
(Please note that flight times are subject to change at the airlines discretion). Centrally located in Budapest, next to the Budapest Opera House and just 100m from the historical Andrássy Avenue, K+K Hotel Opera offers restaurant and bar facilities. All rooms are air conditioned and have a flat-screen satellite TV, desk, telephone, as well as tea and coffee facilities. The famous St. Stephen’s Basilica is approximately 450 metres, with the Chain Bridge 1 km away. Afternoon and evening at leisure.

Day 2:
After breakfast, join your local guide for a city tour of Budapest. Budapest is Hungary’s capital with a population in excess of 1.7 million. It is Hungary’s principal cultural, commercial, industrial, political, and transportation center and covers an area of roughly 525 square miles. The city’s primary allure is the beautiful Danube River as it gracefully meanders its way through the city. Your city tour will finish at the main Budapest Christmas Market. After a busy morning, you have the afternoon free for independent sightseeing.

Day 3:
Morning and afternoon free for independent sightseeing. In the early evening, meet your local guide for the short walk from your hotel to the Callas Café for a 3-course pre-performance dinner (the restaurant is located beside the Opera House) and afterwards attend the evening performance of The Nutcracker in the Hungarian State Opera. Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker has for decades been an essential part of the Opera's run-up to Christmas. Partnering with Tamás Solymosi to choreograph a new fairy-tale ballet for the classical-music piece is a true Nutcracker specialist: the internationally renowned Wayne Eagling. This is the first time in the life of the Hungarian National Ballet that an artist of such worldwide stature has developed a choreography tailored specifically to its members, as well as taking inspiration from them. Return to hotel with your guide (on foot).
